Abad Green Forest Resort
The Abad Green Forest Resort in Kumily is just five km from the Periyar Tiger Reserve. The reserve and its surroundings form the hub of activities in Thekkady. Boating and angling on the lake, trekking in the hills and going for elephant rides are the most common pastimes here. Thekkady gets its name from ‘thekku’, or teak trees that are found in plenty here.
The accommodation at the resort comprises 40 rooms and cottages. The spacious rooms have en-suite baths, and are equipped with satellite TV, mini fridge and tea/coffee maker. Guests can travel to Madurai, in Tamil Nadu, from here. It is only 135km. the nearest airport is located here. Kottayam, 110km away, has the nearest railway station. Munnar is about three hours away, and Cochin is four hours away.
You should ideally spend two to three days in Thekkady – there’s a lot to do out here. The blue hills are full of trails waiting to be discovered. The guided trekking is a great way to find wild animals and birds. Soak in nature at her best here.
