At Carmelia Haven, located at Vandanmedu, on the Thekkady-Munnar road, you’re welcome to experience nature at her best. Plantations, forests, rivers and waterfalls beckon you. The resort is only about a half-hour ride from Thekkady. This plantation resort is home to varieties of spices such as cardamom, pepper, clove, nutmeg, ginger and cinnamon. On your walks around the resort you’ll find fruits such as pineapple, mango, mangostene, jackfruit, guava, banana, litchi, orange, rambuttan, butter fruit, papaya and rose apple.

At Carmelia Haven, we believe in the philosophy “Adithidevo bhava.” And we practise it, too. Our guests are treated so well they don’t wanna leave the resort. A huge percentage of them come back next year for more. Carmelia Haven’s luxurious suites and rooms with landscaped backyard is built to suit the taste of each and every guest. The circular cottages come with thatched roofs. They are located within tea plantations and fruit trees. Honeymoon couples can relax in these environs, cuddling up to themselves. The deluxe cottages are named according to the trees and plants surrounding them: cardamom – elakkadu, coffee – kappikkadu and orange – orangekadu.

The Erumadoms (wood cabins on tree tops) are perfect for the adventurous. The wooden bedroom has an attached bathroom, and the adjoining balcony offers picturesque views of the valley below. The Cave is an underground cellar that gives utmost privacy. Flamboyant suites are well-furnished and adorned. They comprise a bedroom, with bathroom, and a living room. Eating is a fabulous experience here. The restaurant is a multi-cuisine one. You can have a sit-down lunch or dinner, or you could sit among the trees outside for a barbeque. Enjoy an evening with your friends around the bonfire. The in-house shop sells spices, souvenirs and knick-knacks.

The conference hall is called Nattukoottam, which literally means public gathering, is the place for you to arrange parties and receptions. It can hold 300 people in theatre style. Guests can play tennis or go for a swim in the pool. Entrance yourself in the world of books, in our library. Or if nature trails are your liking, then head to the woods. Once you’re done with trekking or shopping, and your feet are tired, it is good to head to the

Ayurvedic centre here. Lounge in the parlour for a massage or a steam bath. Skilled doctors and professionals will assist you. The resort officials are eager to organise short day trips for the guests. Take a round of the tiger reserve, go boating on the lake and go mountain climbing. The famous Sabarimala Temple dedicated to Lord Ayyappa is situated towards the west of the Periyar forests. If you’re looking for an absolute trekking experience, don’t miss Gavi. It is wilderness at its best. Here, you will come across elephants, macaques and deer. At Parumthumpara, off a cliff, is a great place to enjoy a beautiful view. Visit Anakkara to get a feel of the countryside. You can even see parts of Tamil Nadu from here. Carmelia Haven has a nice property – tea and cardamom plantations – at Kailasam. It is about 22km away, and you can go on long and short walks among the plantations. We can arrange for you to visit the tea and cardamom factories there, too. There’s a lake where you can go boating or fishing.
