Periyar nest Homestay is located close to the Periyar Tiger Reserve at Thekkady. it is only four km from Kumily. On offer there are plush, comfortable rooms, which are neatly laid out and serviced. All rooms have attached baths, hot and cold water and satellite TV facilities. Our restaurant will have delicious, home-cooked dishes. Spend some time in the recreation room or play badminton in out outdoor court. Kids can have a lot of fun, too, with the games we’ve arranged for them.
We are delighted to conduct cooking classes for guests. You can follow us into the kitchen and learn quite a bit about Indian cuisines. From starters and main course dishes, we’ll teach you to cook Indian sweets and savouries.
We offer good Ayurvedic packages at competitive rates. The two best ones are our face and body massages. Expert doctors and masseurs and masseuses will leave you stunningly refreshed and feeling more beautiful! We use the best cleansing oils, steam baths, and Ayurvedic medicines on our guests.
We can arrange kalari and Kathakali performances for our guests. At Kadathanadan Kalari Centre, Thekkady, Kalari is performed in a kuzhikalari (stage made by caving in the earth). Guests are seated on a high gallery, from where you can get an absolutely good view of the feats. Kathakali dates back to the 17th century. This dance-drama involves exaggerated movements, heavy makeup and flamboyant costume. The artists – traditionally performed by men – use gestures to relate epics and stories.
Guests who love the outdoors should check out the ecotourism programmes in the reserve. Along with local guides, you can go trekking, rafting, hiking, nature walks, boating, night camping and for elephant rides, jungle safaris and tiger trails. You can also visit the numerous tribal hamlets around the town – you get to see how they spend their lives, earn their livelihood, and also learn about their past.
Hop onto a bullock cart and take a ride around Thekkady. This is the best way to explore the countryside. You can also hire bicycles. Small towns such as Peermade, Mullaperiyar, Gavi and Ramakalmedu are good spots for a day’s picnic from Thekkday.
