Spice Village Resort – CGH Earth Experience

Spice Village Resort is a timeless experience in ecological living, recreated for the modern traveller. You will be greeted with forests, fruit trees, rare herbs and a profusion of flowering plants. The Spice Village has been designed and constructed using mountain spirit and tribal wisdom as building material. The cottages are made of brick and log, the roof is thatched with the same elephant grass used in tribal huts and woven in the same traditional techniques.

If you’re wondering about the comforts of the resort, rest assured that you’ll be receiving five-star facilities and amenities. Comfortable beds, hot showers, stone paths, flower beds between cottages… and more. There’s no need for an AC as the mountain wind will keep you cool.

There are many types of trees in the area. A.W. Woods, an Anglo-Indian, who worked for the Government of the British Raj in the 1930s, is said to have planted most of them himself. Though illiterate, his grasp of the local Ooralie culture and the geography of the place secure him this job. On the grounds surrounding his home (now the Woodhouse Bar), he created a remarkable arborarium. As a result of the thick canopy and tall trees, there are many birds living in them, too. You can wake up to the soothing coo of a cuckoo or the buzzing of bees afar.

There are three dining areas at the Spice Village. You can choose to dine at the rustic wooden tables in the dining hall proper, or take your plate out to the long verandah and enjoy your meal al fresco, over looking the swimming pool. The historic Tiffin Room serves light snacks all day. The rosewood chairs and tables here are restored antiques from a 100-year old restaurant in the next valley that closed its doors in 1995. And, for those who love to learn about our recipes and cooking styles, we organise cookery classes for guests. The chef will reveal a few of his secret recipes here.

The Woodhouse bar is a great place to relax in the evenings, with, of course, a glass of Scotch in hand. One side of the bar is given over to Billiards and memories. Rare hunting photographs jostle for space with conservation documents and pictures of royalty.

The Spice Village, like all CGH properties, is resplendent in ayurvedic therapies and treatments. You can choose from a a variety of activities here: Panchakarma, beauty care, massages, slimming, yoga and meditation. The best way to rejuvenate your mind and body is to go for a full body massage.
